DARRELL NULISCH - Times Like These

"This record shows my band's willingness to 'get out of the box,'" states Darrell,& "to try more obscure things."
Offerings like the scorching remake of Little Milton's "Lonely Man," complete with Moeller's fiery fretwork and resounding horns, and Gomes' silky smooth "Handle It With Care," leave plenty of chances to tap into a wealth of creativity.
Darrell's Blues-soaked "Good Thing" has a classic Bobby Bland feel – slow burning with lush horn lines and an unforgettable vocal performance.
His version of the Temptations' "Don't Look Back," (a song also made famous by Peter Tosh and Mick Jagger) is made new as Darrell puts a Southern spin on the Motown classic.

"I've always wanted to record a song with more immediate recognition," explains Darrell. "Most of the covers I pick are lesser-known, so choosing this song and doing it justice is a great moment for me.
"In typical Nulisch fashion, he offers up "Something Else," a stripped-down Texas shuffle featuring David Maxwell at the keys and Darrell on harmonica, belts it out in true Otis style on Mr. Redding's "That's a Good Idea," and closes the set with the joyful "Right Here at Home," – the perfect ending to an inspired work ofcontemporary soul/blues.

Back Door Slam, the name comes from the Robert Cray blues classic, and that influence and that of other blues greats like Eric Clapton, John Mayall, Rory Gallagher, early Fleetwood Mac plus the late Stevie Ray Vaughan imbues their intoxicating, guitar-driven sound. Knowles, who also writes most of the songs, first picked up the guitar at age 11 after hearing Dire Straits Sultans of Swing on his father's cassette. Skipping the usual three-chord songbook approach to learning the instrument, he taught himself to play the classic song in its entirety and, in doing so, also discovered his destiny.

String Driven Thing - The Machine That Cried

Fondly remembered, if only now by a select few (dave roberts for one), but in Holland you can still find alot of people, that have a few titles in their collections.

String Driven Thing.
They were Scottish progressive rockers whose appeal rested largely on the scrapings of their classically trained violinist,
Grahame Smith. Nothing jaunty or celtic, mind, his style was almost Mogadon morose.
With leader Chris Adams supplying the suitably dark and troubled musings, their crowning moment came in 1973 with "The Machine that Cried". on Charisma, their label at the time, they considered it a little too grim for public consumption and forced a few key changes.
This though, is the band's own restored version and a fine, creepy period piece it is too, never more so than on Heartfeeder and the epic, if flawed, River of Sleep, which was cut to ribbons first time around.
The track To See You sounds like dylan could have sang it.
